KaiaLeatherArt

Kaia Leather and Art from West Virginia

Weston, West Virginia

Announcement    Greetings! I am so glad that you have stopped in my shop. Everything that you see here and that I sell retail from home or in galleries has been made by me, the only artisan. I designed and updated the designs of every purse, hat, belt, pouch, or product. By hand-crafted, I mean I only use hand tools, except for my beloved industrial sewing machine. You can see how much I love nature in my designs, often modeled off artifacts that I pick up in the woods surrounding my house. In fact, my studio is more often one of my porches than inside. I use a variety of leather; I enjoy combining colors and textures for purses and pouches, and even the brims of the hats. Please contact me if you would like to purchase something, so that I can make sure you get the item that is perfect for your needs.

History: I had just moved to West Virginia and needed to make some money in 1982. So a few friends who had been doing leather work in California before moving here taught me the basics. From then until now, I have used my artistic design skills to create my own patterns, functional and decorative. I started with belts, but soon moved into wallets and purses. Hair barrettes, key fobs, small leather pouches, leather balls, and other small goods remain my most popular items. In the 1990s, I added art to my stock in trade, creating colored pencil drawings and printing art cards. I also collect antiquarian books.

I've been working with leather since 1982, creating all my own designs and patterns, both functional and decorative. I started drawing with colored pencils in the 1990s, and also collecting antique art, which I mat and frame for sale.
